Earth Day

On Earth Day, I spent an hour and a half walking around in Jakes Mall looking at other peoples posters. The expositions that i enjoyed the most were the ones on animal abuse and cruelty, Educating inmates and bottled water. I learnt how people drink so much bottled water, and not recycle the bottles! If everyone just bought reusable water bottles we would decrease pollution. The animal cruelty exsposition was the most impacting one. So many animals are killed for food or for just plain cruelty. If we all ate less meat, and treated our animals with respect, our world would be a better place. Animals are helpless little creatures who do no harm to humans. They don't deserve to be mistreated. Also, by eating less meat, our bodies would be less inclined to developing certain diseases such as heart disease and cancer.

As for my poster, my group and I did it on the dissapearing fish and the high mercury levels in fish that we eat. My contribution had to do with the dissapearing fish. I think overall, students were shocked to find out that mercury levels in fish were rising and that our fish was dissapearing!

I felt that over all, the colleges participation was fantastic! Everyone asked questions and learnt a lot. People were willing to stand there and listen to other people talk about issues that they were passionate about.
